Munni Begum is a renowned ghazal Singer. She is from Pakistan but based in Chicago, USA. Nadira is her actual name but she prefers to be called Munni Begum. She is a world famous performer and her singing style is unique.

Munni Begum’s birthplace is Murshidabad, West Bengal, India. She was the youngest child of seven children so she got love and attention of her parents and she was interested in singing since childhood. In 1950 Munni Begum’s parents migrated from India to East Pakistan which later became independent Bangladesh. She has studied in a school of Dhaka but due to war of 1971 her parents again moved back to Pakistan.

She has learnt music from the famous singer Ustad Khwaja Ghulam Mustafa Warsi. She has also studied in college of music for three years. After finishing her studies in music she started her career as singer in Karachi in 1970.

Though she has faced many hardships in her life and had been through difficult times but she was never discouraged. She was the one who was responsible for her entire family and she fulfilled her responsibility. She was always guided by her father at every step of her life for reaching towards her goal and she feels fortunate to have him in her life. She believes she was able to perform in functions because of his father’s unconditional love and care. In starting she recorded ghazals for radio and tv musical programs and soon after that her cassettes were hit in Pakistan and then all over the world.

Her career as singer was started in 1970 but she launched her first ghazals album in 1976 which was a super hit and broke all earlier records.

She has got the Pride of Performance award from Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan in 2008 in Karachi.

She has been singing for over two decades and has simplified her presentation for the sake of general public.

Munni Begum is a married women and she is a mother of two daughters and one son.
